Stars: In all your examples, the spell is either worthless -- mana lost or at least none gained -- or it's a free gain -- you get back more than the cost. My point here is that you could call the spell "free mana" and it would work out the same: <500hp 500m 500mv> c 'free mana' You failed. <500hp 35...

Somebody set up and administers the firewall, and that's the person you should ask.

I see no difference between this spell and any other that already exists. I wasn't aware that any spell was a freebie. They all cost mana to cast. I have never seen any other spell with major drawbacks, other than mana cost. No other spell has as its only purpose to give that mana back, plus some ....

I will second everything Scav just said, and I'll also add this... I will, generally, answer specific questions about the way the game works internally. If you've noticed that I can be a bit vague with my answers, it's not because I don't know the specifics. It's usually for one of two reasons: - it...

The simplest way for you to find out what ports are open on the firewall would be to just ask your network administrator. There's no really obvious reason for him or her to withhold that information, especially since it is so readily verifiable. If you're afraid of rousing suspicion, make up some re...

This would have to have negative fighting effects (minus hitroll/damroll/ac, possibly minus to fighting-related skills) in order to be worthwhile. Otherwise it's just a freebie.

History has shown us that any attempt to impose a system of trade on the mud will be subverted by the rather incredible amount of charity that goes on here. See also the timely (no "un" there) demise of the auction channel. This is a good thing! The money supply of the Realms is ever-expanding. The ...

I've let this go too long; there's too much to address here in a little forum post. Anyway, here goes: 1) I'm not in favor of changing word of recall in any way. There's already too much teleport/track/astral going on and not enough walking. I certainly do not want to dilute the value of those three...

Merc supports several different save vs. <whatever> effects. We only support one. All save vs. <whatever> effects on items are applied to save vs. spell in BR. That means no matter whether the item says it's save vs. breath, save vs. rod, save vs. paralysis, save vs. petrification, save vs. unbeliev...

Each additional -1 to your save vs. spell is worth the same as another level to your character. All other things being equal, it works out to about a five percent better chance of making your saving throw; if it was 80% before, it'll be 85% if you drop your save vs. spell another point. The chance o...

style-based humans

I would just like to restate my previous bravos for EB's style-based redesign of humans. I think the whole thing is very well conceived. I just took the time to really read the whole thing again, and some ideas and concerns popped to mind. In no particular order... - I think that some of the minuses...
