Congratulations LEILAND on making IMMORTAL LEVEL!!!

Slart: fixes/update...and a plea

I just booted in a couple of fixes relating to demons:
- demons won't grow prayer heads anymore
- heads that cast sizzle will cast it on the mob now

File both of those under "duh..."

Now for the real news. Most of you know about the manual restore script
for demon avatars. I just added code to do the equipment and stats
restoration automatically when you hit level 151.

For the next day or so, if you avatar a demon, please note Kiri and me and
let us know how it went, and if there are any problems with the restore.

I've done my own testing with real pfiles and backups, but you can never
test everything, so your help in this manner will be appreciated. Also
note that if -- for whatever reason -- the mud crashes when you avatar,
we have all kinds of backups for this, so don't panic about losing anything.

levels a certain area is meant for

Suicide: new remort race-banshees. can possess mobs (beat it into submission, once "dead", banshee becomes that
mob(gains spell casting and/or some function of hp/mana), probably lose hp and mana slowly at some fixed rate.

Johan: make tan more powerful, based on level - the items are timed...

Scratch: it would be interesting if samuel's winged sandals made you fly

Wizzywig: in my opinion, it would make sense if dexterity affected your hitroll

Slab: separate arena deaths from other deaths in the death count

Slab: make a mob type that is agressive when looked at

Slab: make all new spells on a level appear in a different colour (or in capitals or something) when typing
'practice' at the guildmaster

Slab: flaming items make healing spells 10% more powerful too, also could increase time a spell affects you by 10%

Zahri: when a newbie types help map, they see at the bottom that aod sells other maps.. however i think it would
be nice if you mentioned that he wanders around, and thus cannot be listed. I accidently ran into the guy outside
the druid guild, and realized

Slab: have another state of being, 'hyper' from coffee - fast recharge of moves + increased hitroll but as a
disvadantage have moves count double randomly (The caffeine spurs you on again!) increase AC slightly as another disadvantage.

Slab: add pill spells to identify

Polgara: how about a demon tongue or limb that drags (works like throw) a mob from another room into yours

DwarfMan: Put item in container should work for the container in your inventory. I almost didn't notice that
I was loading my HERO ITEMS in a container on the floor!

DwarfMan: Firm Grasp & Multiattack for Dwarves before level 20. They can double their damage at level 11.
Why shouldn't they get these WARRIOR skills before a wekling Elf!?

DwarfMan: Alcohol should make Dwarves more violent! It should automatically put them in frenzy and berzerk.
The strength of the spell would depend on the alcohol.....(Hail the almighty Firebreather!) :p

Sure. You can use the "typo" command for something like this too, it's a really easy fix for new keywords on help files and when Kiri does typo changes she could very easily do these.

Actually it's -301 and "boosting it" is a lot more complicated than raising the number. That cap is to ensure that the higher level (40+) mobs aren't impossible.

Again, as if demons aren't powerful enough. They don't have dodge and parry for the exact reason that they needed a drawback.

Unless he's trying to heal before getting in another fight. Fine by me if the mob attacks on a missed dive though.

Slist isn't that long, you can't just read it and look at the line that matches your current level?

Not sure how you got 18(19) but it's a random number based on your int and wis, you got very unlucky.

Yup yup.

I think that would get far too complicated and could, if you had a big enough group, make your prompt too big. I think it would be enough if just the TANK's hp were in your prompt. As in if you're hitting a mob but that mob isn't hitting you, whoever that mob is hitting is considered the TANK for this purpose. If you are hitting a mob and your groupmate is hitting a mob and your respective mobs are also hitting you (respectively) then you would be considered the TANK until you kill your mob and help your partner. If he was tanking and you were hitting the same mob and another mob was hitting you, he'd still be the tank of the mob you're focused on.

Too powerful. Teleport and summon are overly powerful as it is, we don't need to introduce yet another one.

You're just tired of the 85 useless eyes. I wouldn't expect any "additions" to demons to occur for a long long time.

That's more complicated than you think it is. It would also force us to reconsider what spells we used on the mobs. For instance, spec_cast_elf/dru use healing spells. Mobs don't use mana. This would mean a glared mob is a permanent healer.

What makes it more or less useful? The only downside of "fire_breath" over the others is that it's target-only (not room). All breath spells are dependent on hitpoints.

It would, but that's starting to screw around with the combat system and something that sounds as simple as "making dex affect hitroll" could completely outbalance the game.

We don't use MOBPrograms because of their instability. (They used to exist and were pulled a long long time ago)

The discussion over flaming is widely debated. I don't know if it still exists in the new forums, but it's a can of worms. For now I'll just say it's unlikely flaming gets modified beyond what it currently does.

Yes, it should examine your inventory for that item type first.

Those skills were meant to be hero skills. Perks for reaching certain points in the hero levels. Whether they should still be where they are could certainly a topic of debate. But that's why they are so late in the game.

This idea I like. Although it is kind of obnoxious for those ideas that are quick and simple (you know... most of them...). Long ideas, however, can be emailed to Kiri and she will include them.

Kill the vagabond! And those sneaky thieves could just as easily sneak into the bank and pick your pocket!

Potions are restricted to 3 spells, defeater already has 3 spells. Besides, you're at the magician, why not just buy the purple potion?

I don't really understand why all containers poof when they're empty come to think of it...

Yell is only hearable in areas. That would require a history for every single area. That's quite a bit of memory required for something relatively useless. If you want a really good explanation, ask Scavenger because he wrote the history code.

Be grateful druids get anything of the sort!

I'm not opposed to this as long as the spell is renewed to its maximam capacity, not stacked. Like if you can cast a 20 hour armor spell and it's at 10 hours, why shouldn't you be able to re-cast the armor spell and bring it back to 20?

Nobody said a mortal can't help a newbie. The logic is that a hero has played enough to be able to adequately teach a newbie. If you're hoping that as a mortal you'll receive a starsword for helping newbies, forget it.

I agree... or at least arena deaths should be a different channel from a regular death.

I'd like to point out the problem with this, by adding a small qualifier to your argument, which I'm sure if this is logic on your part and not just laziness you'll agree with.

THINGS shouldn't be able to move/flee when they're in AWFUL condition!

So, if YOU are totally messed up, you shouldn't be able to run away either.

no, dragon's muzzle doesn't use mana anakin, i was just meaning that the others should be breathable as well, also at a cost of no mana, or possibly that the type of breath should be randomized. come to think of it, that would make the most sense, having a possibility of each.
"Freedom of speech" is not the same thing as "Freedom from consequences".

As Dive said, -301. The point is that our entire combat system is designed around there being a very limited number of levels (35 for fighting) and this was enforced through caps inside the combat system. Therefore, it doesn't work well at all past 40. I've talked with Slart about this, and he doesn't even want to think about messing more than incidentally with the combat code at all.

This has to do with what order the game looks at things. I've had the same problem, and I'm never going to get used to it, but it does make sense at points... after all, how else would you check for enterable containers?

I like this idea, but I'd also like for the idea command to take anything that didn't correspond with the subarguments to then work like it does, now. (i.e. if you weren't telling the command to add to your "idea note," it'd just send whatever followed it on the line as an idea)
Slab: make an empty drink container you can fill with any liquid from a fountain
There's two problems with this. One is that if you empty a drink container, it disappears, instead of sitting around waiting to be refilled. Second is that you can only refill drinks from fountains of the appropriate type, and, currently, fountains can only emit water. If you drink from a fountain and get something else, it's because it's not actually a type "fountain" item.
Polgara: How about some way to tell which of your multiple arms or limbs, of the same type, has a replacement?

Not double-checked, but I believe Slart said this a while back: since he wouldn't ever implement anything like an identify for demons, his compromise is that new limbs will always grow underneath the lowest level limb of that type. (So if you have two stone legs, and a webbed foot is under one of them, it'll be under the lower level one.)
