News from the Realms:

Currently running quests:

Lairian: Heritage Quest

To all the living and breathing in the Realms, greetings.
I have undertaken the job of recording and condensing the history of all races
represented within the Barren Realms. However, being one elf, I do not feel that I can be trusted
to truely tell the tale of any one race. I ask those of the Realms to represent their race in finding
their true heritage. I will be asking every week for members of a certain race to trace their history
within the Realms. I will do preliminary research and give you a shove in what I believe is the right direction.
Every week a different race will quest, on Saturday at 5 pm system time.
First Quest to begin on the 13th, and another every week. Humans first, then Kender, Illithid, Dwarves, Druids, and Avians.
ONLY one quest per PLAYER please, and morts at that.
Level does not matter for this. Killing WILL NOT be part of the quest. In fact, any killing of quest
related mobs will result in a slay. This is a ROLE PLAY quest.
So, choose your favorite race, and get a character up to 10ish if need be. ANY SKILL possessed by a race is legal.
However, no skill is legal if the race does not get it. Please don't use alts to locate stuff, lest you be DQed.
Thanks Leiland for sponsoring, please direct questions to the forum at www.barrenrealmsmud.com.

AMystery: Dying to suceed

All of you drifting aimlessly through life, here is your chance to
make your life mean something, by dying! I'm holding a quest to find
honorable deaths. You need only go, die, and record the battle
message. Then note me with why it was worthy and the exact message

For those of you who remember an earlier quest with the same plot,
feel free to resubmit your entries This time I'll put a time limit
on it. You have exactly 1 week to die for a cause, so next friday
night your deaths will be enumerated for all to see. Get started!

Disaster: Tgames 3

hey all, just a reminder that if you have yet to tell me you want
to join up, you should quickly. just for the curious among you, we
currently have 18 players signed up, so we should have a real blast
with this :) more are always welcome though, provided that you start
your character and tell me its name BEFORE i remove the 5-level limit
and place you into your teams/tribes (yes, we're going with tribes,
sinec this is after all based loosely on the "survivor" tv show )
if the current trend of les and less people joining every day
continues, i plan to have a grand kick-off party/quest-ish thingie
this coming sunday evening. this is still tentative though, i do
want to give as much time as reasonably possible to other people who
want to join up i'll do my best to keep you posted, and give you an
exact time as soon as i know it for certain (i should either have the
time, or a postponement, by friday evening at the latest) -dis

oh, and if you don't see me online to send me a tell about your
tgamer, that's fine, you can do it in a note.

NEWS:

Disaster: new help files

just for your information, the help files have been reworked and
the new versions are now implemented. as before, "help help" will
give you a brief introduction to the help system, including a
description of "help summary" and the help menu system. i don't
THINK that i missed any typos/out of date information/etc when i was
reworking them, but if you find anything that needs to be fixed,
please report it with "typo". -Dis

IDEAS: (Feel free to respond via email to me or on the forums)

Exe: we should be able to put colors on emotes, then we could
trick people

Crux: place a map to lershar on aod
Kiri -- this is coming

Disaster: mobs more than 5 levels below me shouldn't automatically make their saving throw against death field

Crux: revamp wyhtl, most notably the doors
Kiri -- what exactly do you mean? If you think it's a bug, please use the bug command (help bug) to report it, otherwise, send me an email to explain this.

Responses to last week's Newsletter:

Anakin: Again: it'd be kinda fun if sometimes throw hit a different mob, if more than one in the room, rather than just missing or hitting your specified target
>>Yeah, or base the throw % on your dex, so it can do something. ^_^
Firebreeder: we should have a merchant like skill so it will hinder people from making level 2 demons and stitting on them as gold bunnies
>>If we already have 5 demons, 4 which are avatars, I think we deserve to have a gold hoard. Leave my demons alone, level 50's are already giving me a headache.
Cacophony: when you're afk and you send yourself a tell, you should send yourself back what your afk message is set to (since there's no other way i'm aware of to see it)
>>*lol* It's probably just me but I use an alt to check what my afk message is.
Firebreeder: i think druids or elves should have a spell called town portal, so they can teleport to the fountains in other towns
>>Already have discussed this, denied.

I just type the afk message every time. i'm willing to be those five extra keystrokes each time is not going to be the cause of arthritis...

i'll type:
"afk brb"
"afk iaw"
"afk food!"
"afk I'm afk!"

What is this recent monstrous need to check your afk message so often?

Everybody:

The simplest way (imo) is that if you just type afk (going afk, not coming back), it shows you what your current afk message is. I have the same problem... I put one up at some point, and then never remember what it is, because I 1) don't go afk all that often, and 2) almost never type a new message in when I do go afk. This seems like something that wouldn't take much to code in, and would be a nice add-on, to me.

It is my predominant trait, but you wouldn't know it from how serious I pretend to be!

This made the who would buy that list http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=655277

This actually makes me laugh. My wife inherited a collection of beer cans. I was curious about the worth of the collection. I found out that some of the cans could be worth 100+ dollars.
