I think there should be a hall of the aicents, where there would be various items from the MUD's past....compleate with teleporter mirrors that take you to the retired areas of old @>-------------------------------[Dryden]---------------------------------- Here we go, 1. The Guardian, eh? Hmmm... let me think about that. 2. Yes, I would like to see turds removed, OR as has been mentioned before, make then sac'able (with no reward was a good suggestion). 3. Dream channel - The basic idea, here I think, is that sleeping people miss tells. The dream channel should be on automatically when sleeping, showing you any tells in the form of a dream. If you want to make it a bit fancier, implement a "dreamwalking" skill that would allow sleeping players to talk to each other, or perhaps wander a dreamworld area. Anyone that has read Robert Jordan can see where something like this would lead, and it's pretty complex to explain, but would be nifty. 4. New idea for BR? Let me see... there have been so many suggested. The dreamworld idea above, I think, is pretty cool, but for something else original... how about having shopkeepers teach you their crafts? For a steep price and penalty, perhaps, a player could learn create potion from the magician in the Magic Shop, tanning from the leather shop... for all those who don't have these skills available to them... one would have to forfiet a level's worth of experience, and say... 900k gold. Minimum level to become an apprentice would be level 25. 1. (reprise) How about Thanatos? Greek for "death". SPECIAL BONUS SECTION: HELP NEWS Things always to be included: BR's email address and web site. Reminder to read help rules. No PKilling or PStealing reminder. (These can be placed in a section at the top, or make them a seperate page. Other things to include: Latest new feature to go in, a holliday message, when applicable, A question for everyone to answer (new every week if possible, could be silly, whatever... just something to generate some interest or feedback) A BR Staff quote of the week. How's that? -Dry :) @>-------------------------------[Voltar]-------------------------------- Voltar's 2 cents! 1. Ok, the guardian should be named the Guardian of Calathar. Sorry you want a name but I like it as it is. 2. No don't get rid of the turds. Refer to answer four. 3. The dream channel would be cool if it simply told you who was sending you a tell so you can wake up and see what they want. For example If I send someone a tell the message should be something like you see voltar in your dream and the image wakes you. The character then can be awakened and the sender can immediately re-send the message. This way things won't be too easy. The sleep should be kept so if you are sleeping you can't do everything. Otherwise rest and sleep will be the same. 4. And my new Idea. This one will solve the turd problem, I like it. Ok rather than turds being permanent a player should be able to BURY turds and would simply get rid of them. @>------------------------[Taar]----------------------------------------- >1. What would you like to name the guardian of Calathar? > Something like Erik Raude or something else Viking, because he reminds me of the famed viking people formerly guarding Byzantine. (Waraeger in german) >2. Would you like to get rid of steaming turds? > As they are now: Yes! But if you give them a sense like take them, put them on the ground (outside only) and grow perhaps a healing plant out of them they could be great for the people who do not have healing magic... >3. How would a dream channel work? > I think communication is not a good idea. Either you sleep or not. But perhaps it could be possible to give the players glimpses of some of the areas. Either randomly or like >>dream <<. But it should definitely be random what EXACTLY is to be seen. This would make sleeping not so boring and maybe even give some useful information. To make it not to straight, some random dreams could be intermixed (the idea of a database is not bad and the players could fill it themselves like >>dream story <<) >4. what do YOU suggest as a new idea for BR? > It would be great to have a helpfile and a faq to download somewhere or to be sent by email. The helpfile could contain most of the normal HELPS. Sometimes its not easy to find the subjects fast and it could be very handy to have a printout at hand. Furthermore it could give a short description of all the areas and (perhaps) some hints as how to find them. The faq could cover questions like how to handle two shieldbreakers, how exactly to put up news, hints on equipping a character (which kinds of items are good for which race and so on)... all very neat and with enlightening examples...;) Maybe the faq could be another quest, where the players can submit questions and the corresponding answers. More quests, which are also (and/or only) suitable for lower-level players. Maybe something which is supported by the imms, like giving special spells or abilities (invulnerability or dr=1000) to the players for a limited time. >Write back soon, this quest doesn't end. What would you like to name the guardian of Calathar? I'd name the guardian of Calathar: Chronos. He stands for all TIME and eternity watching over the citizens of Calathar. (Hmm... Must be powered by Energyzer batteries...) > 2. Would you like to get rid of steaming turds? Yes I would--how about these: a) A manure farmer walk around collecting them for his garden and fertilizer shop? The janitor already cleans up blood, why not a poor gardener to collect poopies? b) An old lady walking around with a pooper-scooper. She's looking for her dog of course, who escaped the leash--in the meantime, she might as well scoop poopies until she finds him. > 3. How would a dream channel work? A dream channel? As in: 'dream Hello everyone!' would produce: "Energyzer dreams, 'Hello, everyone!'" I'm not to sure. But if you had a dream arena--like the maze or the arena, you could be transported to a world made up of random rooms from different areas of the Barren Realms. This might take a bit of coding, but selecting rooms at random that have a theme perhaps might be fun. The dream channel would just be a psychadelic trip through the Barren Realms, where players could get ideas about what's out there but haven't yet visited. That way when they come out, they can find out how to get to the place they dreamed about... Of course battles in the dream arena would be wild and crazy: Energyzer *THWAPS* you with his wet noodle and you get muddy knees! Energyzer trips you and you fly up in the air! You can't flee! You're still rumbling and tumbling! You lose 3.1415 XP! etc. > 4. what do YOU suggest as a new idea for BR? Well hm. (See above?) It would be really fun to incoporate a bit of MOOing into the Realms (MUD Object Oriented). Namely, have some way in which players could set up shop, make a home or at least a room for themselves in which they could create objects or descriptions. Perhaps a hotel could be created where people could go. Those who want to, and have the experience--as in they're a rather permanent fixture--level 20 or so... ;)--could "rent" a room so to speak and customize it themselves. Heroes zap themselves off to their own rooms and so do Imms free of charge; I wouldn't mind paying a few gold a day to have my OWN place to decorate myself. When a person is on who has a room in the hotel, then that room can be visited (if unlocked of course). I don't know--it sure would add to the role-playing of the Realms, an always welcome thing. Sometimes there's just too much head bashing and not enough role-playing, eh? Then again, maybe I've role-played TOO much, having been born on Midgaard almost 17 months ago and still lingering at level 20! ;) -'Gyzer P.S. Like the newsletter... Ipse here: I have suggestion for a new class: Explorer/Guide/Scout Primary characteristic would be Intelligence then Constitution. I'd like to see the a way for the explorer to get points for finding things and discovering places rather than killing. Explorer would be able to make maps (maybe only make a map of the area she/he's in at the moment and the correctness of the map would be determined by their level and skill level. Should also be able to correct maps made previously. Spells: Make map Correct map Scout: would allow char to check an adjacent room for traps and bottomless cliffs Subject: newsletter 25 (fwd) >@>--------------------{Jett Do'Urden}------------------------ I like the idea of doing away with the steaming turds, they get annoying. You could still keep the option of steaming turds just don't have them sit around after the fight. Of course Delbin's idea of the edible turds is funny but not practical when you can recall and buy food at the store or simply drink enough water to fill yourself up. The guardian's name should be something that deals with power and purity, he does glow white afterall. How about Ao, he's a high god from Forgotten Realms. On the sublject of Something new for Barren Realms how about having a players Goodness or evilness do more than just affect what he can use. For example an evil elf would become a Drow with some pluses and minuses, or the reverse, a truly good elf would become a light elf with its own bonuses. This would raise problems though with characters like the kender. An evil kender is hard to picture. It would work well with the humans, dwarves, elves, druids, and avians though. Just a thought. @>------------------------[Strikehammer]-------------------------------------- To answer the questions for the newsletter quest... 1. Guardian name: Vigilante 2. Turds: Eh, keep them. I'm still proud to say I had 42 steaming turds in recall that night when Xor went nuts. :) 3. Dream Channel: Hmmm interesting... Since groups usually sleep at once maybe it could be geared around that. Or even like "pose" a random, race oriented phrase is sent to all people in the area sleeping. 4. Idea?: Ok, I have a great idea... (No, not mortal rooms ;) How about a place where Druids can summon anybody they please without having to worry if they are in too low a area level. This would help all of us out (especially me! :D). You could make this place near town. Or even by typing a certain command will get you there... a la maze or arena. :) -Strikehammer > 1. Another thing I think it would be interesting to implement is messages which MORTALS (and us weirdo 51+'ers) could configure our exit/entrance messages: IE, Bob leaves south could become "Bob slimes southward on disgusting pseudopods" and Riel arrives from the south could be "Riel shuffles in from the south, dropping chunks of flesh and rotting happily." How about simply making a person who receives a tell in their sleep see something like "In your dreams, a manifestation of [Player_Name] shows up and tells you [message]. >4. what do YOU suggest as a new idea for BR? 1) How about a skill for kender called acupuncture which heals approximately 20 hp or so, but requires no mana and can only be used out of battle. This skill would require that the kender would have to find at least one acupuncture needle. It would also have the side effect that the kender might slip and accidently break the needle in themselves, causing approximately 20-50hp loss. If the kender failed in this method, then it would have to find more needles. 2) The area command should be updated to show all areas that have the range of levels inside their own range. For example, if I were to type area 40 50, I should get all the areas that include that range, as opposed to only that range of levels. It should also be able to be used as area [Area_Name] to show the level of that area. I also agree that the name of the area you are in should be visible to you, perhaps in a separate command such as WhereAmI. 3) Please put saving rolls in the score (save vs. spell, etc.) 4) How about some item to hold other than a poison clan which is a weapon? Every one I see above level 18 has one other than imms and heros :). (I might try to do this at a later date in an area). 5) Has anyone else noticed that some of the best equipment for levels30-45 is about level 24??? 6) I like the armor/weapon changing idea. Perhaps a shop in town that can remove various flags based on your level compared to the level of the item? (A level 27 character couldn't have a level 27 item altered, but a level 40 character could have a level 25-30 item altered.) Just some suggestions :). I don't really care for the explorer thingy. You get exp here by killing stuff. Period. FeeDee (catching up) :) >1. What would you like to name the guardian of Calathar? >The name of the guardian should be Elayne - why NOT a female guardian? 2. Would you like to get rid of steaming turds? >No, I'm used to them now. 3. How would a dream channel work? As an example, Zifnab types dream and the message would appear to the person as Zifnab appears in your dreams and reveals to you, . Also, there could be dreamchat which wuold appear to everyone as Zifnab dreamchats, 'Hi, guys'. Only people asleep could hear them, however, for either one. It could be optional, too, of course. You may have to type dream to get into dream land :) >4. what do YOU suggest as a new idea for BR? Race: Gnome(or Tinker) Skills Skills would be intermixed with character skills that are from other guilds, of course, and then adding these few. Way of the Leaf - Would stop all fighting in a room, very high level, modified version could just stop mobs fighting the gnome. Reject - This would be similiar to bamf...it would send a mob AWAY from where the gnome is standing Tinker - Tinker could either improve armor or make it worse...depending on a percent chance based on the level of the gnome. Modesty - This spell would be a charm spell that would impress a mob into friendship with the way modest gnome :P Chance - Now this would be a COOL spell...it would cast a random spell which could heal or hurt the person or heal or hurt the mob HIGH mana cost. Dreamwalk - If we can talk in our dreams...why not walk? This would astral to someone asleep. @>---------------------------[FInality]-------------------------------- I am not sure he really needs a name. Although, if we give him one, it doesn't have to be in his description, i.e. you would only notice when 'BATTLE UPDATE: guardian s- c- has bravely entered the battle arena.' Not that that would ever happen to our beloved guardian. :-) > 2. Would you like to get rid of steaming turds? I really don't see any problem with them. I also don't see any problem if the janitor also sees to getting rid of them in his tireless effort to clean the city. > 3. How would a dream channel work? Hmm. I am not sure we really need a dream channel... Whenever I want to get someone's attention, there is this neat command that lets me "beep finality"; even in my sleep, I still get the message, "Finality has beeped you." It suffices to get their attention. > 4. what do YOU suggest as a new idea for BR? As a new idea... (apologies to anyone who might get stuck implementing it...) I think there should be a shopkeeping ability. You would have to go to extra effort to do, but it would allow you to set a price for an item you want to sell. (would make auctioning off blue scrolls really easy...) This would probably be best implemented as a container, where all the stuff you wanted to sell would have to be in the 'peddler's knapsack' or whatever. (this would also be an excuse to get code for multiple shopkeepers in the same room. :-) -Finality @>------------------------------[Sgetsuo]-------------------------- Although I may be forced to leave soon due to lack of computer access through generally wasting my time at University, before I go I'll share these little gems of creation with you all :) Also a big ****************THANK YOU************* goes out to everyone who's put their time and effort into creating and maintaining BR for us all - it really is appreciated!! :) > 1. What would you like to name the guardian of Calathar? Personally I've always thought that something of the "Sgetsuo2" order would be quite catchy ;) Maybe Vic (Rattlehead, for any of you Megadeth fans out there) However, failing that how about reverting to "The Executioner" as it was easily the best idea I've heard so far. > 2. Would you like to get rid of steaming turds? No way! Why get rid of the turds when they could be so useful? I mean, how about tanning them into small shields or smearing them about your body to use as a camouflage? Maybe they could be worn, and the smell will drive aggressive mobs not to attack you but instead attempt to give you a damn good bathing. Seriously though, they could be made sacrificeable as has been suggested before. Whoever had the idea of making them holy had a pretty good idea too...I mean, the last living essence of the creature may be trapped in it's turds so sacrificing it would certainly give a random immortal something to chew on ;) > 3. How would a dream channel work? How about this...a 'dream world' or 'dream arena' where any character can go, but they are all reduced to the same level - or more importantly the same stats and equipment. Different weapons or items could be found around the dream area (make it big preferably) which the character can find and use to fight with. Add to this a generous selection of truly weird and wonderful creatures (perhaps the players become creatures, but only other players can see what you look like...you could be some kind of hairy slug or something and not know about it) and you have a pretty fun fighting area and no complaints about being beaten up by powerful players or Heros. Even Imm's would have to be reduced to the standard level for this to work out right - so no flashy ego-kills here (also combat aliases and spells would obviously be out - or standardised). > 4. What do YOU suggest as a new idea for BR? Vehicles! Not new, but they were a laugh for a bit! I know as I had a car for a go once, and although I couldn't get it to recall or anything it was pretty snazzy :) How about helicopters and stuff too (I saw a rock that floated about randomly once, maybe you could climb on it and float about, getting a bombing option by dropping rocks off it, but the mob then drags you down and you fight after that - so you get a free hit but maybe damaged by the fall). 'S all for now! Hope you like 'em :) Sget. @>--------------------------{can someone help me?}------------------------- I was wondering if someone could recommend a telnet program simmilar to MUGNET, because mugnet keeps locking up on me and booting me out. I have tried all of the programs on TUCOWS. I am running windows 3.11 and would very much like to keep playing Barren Realms. I also would like to create areas for you guys. I dnloaded a progrom off the Official Barren Realms homepage for Windows as soon as i figure it out I would like to create an area for you guys. My character name on Barren REalms is Whitewolf I am a level 8 dwf and plan on becoming a heroe before my birthday which is 11/27. Well I hope you can help me I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks @>--------------------------------[Brisket]------------------------------- A small robin lights and your shoulder and tells you Brisket said this: #1. Name the guardian Sue, and dress him in black. (I also liked Fallout's idea of 'Brutus', but I'd lean more towards 'Bluto') #2. Change the name of the turds to something less offensive, but something that still might be considered an 'unacceptable sacrifice', like say, 'a greasy spot' or perhaps 'entrails'. That could be placed directly into the existing message, as: 'The steaming entrails of assail your nostrils.' The line 'You smell 's sphincter releasing in death' could be changed to ''s internal organs burst in death and spill all over the ground'. This would require only the alteration of some text, and no coding (I would think). #3. I've seen others having really good ideas on this one-- My only thoughts on a 'dream' channel would simply be a sleep-visible 'beep'. #4. On the subject of channels, how about CB channels? There could be 40 (where did I come up with that number?). The CB would be used as following: CB Shows current CB settings CB 0 (zero) Turns CB 'off' CB (1-40) Sets CB to channel CB Sends over current CB channel This would allow for 'semi-private' tells. Example: Player 'Brisket' has a question about area building. Currently on are players 'Nobody' and 'Nonesuch', both veteran builders. 'Brisket' currently has two options: He can spam everyone by asking his questions through public channels, so as to gain the benefit of the wisdom of both 'Nobody' and 'Nonesuch', or he can use a tell to 'Nobody' in order to avoid spamming, in which case he is deprived the benefit of possible input from 'Nonesuch', unless someone wants to perform cross-tell translating, a slow, laborious, and painful process. With a set of CB channels, however, 'Brisket' could simply chat: 'I have some questions about area building. Could someone answer them on CB 27?' Further spamming is thus avoided, and 'roundtable' discussions become possible. Obvious problem: Like with the proposed race language channels, this could lead to cliques and anti-social splinter groups. Also, this could very well fall into the catagory of 'coder's nightmares' (don't know, never progressed beyond BASIC, myself). I've really enjoyed reading everyone's ideas in the newsletter; I'd like to see it continue. Brisket, The Drunken Monken Subject: Collection (fwd) Ok. Here we go. But if this was implemented, make it gold only, and also if the person catches you, he/she gets 5 free rounds of hits on you :). The Name i was always looking for! (NO, im not prejudiced, just because i have this tattoed on my right shoulder as depicted by AOS!= ***************************************************************** Another idea for the BR: Some people asked for Kenders to be allowed to steal from PCs Kenders do not make very much sense (as was said by some people now), since they cannot steal from other players. On the other hand: if PKilling is not allowed, players, from which eq or money was stolen cannot do anything against the bloody thieves... Perhaps it could be a solution (which i saw in similar form in the description of some other mud - sorry i cannot recall the name... ) to work with some special flags. For example make players up to lvl 10 unattackable (flag noattack) by ANY other player and also they should have a flag (nosteal) such that nobody can steal from them. After lvl 10 there should be the possibility for the player to remove these flags VOLUNTARILY, but NEVER restore them. Players who do not have these flags can be killed or anybody can steal from them. Furthermore only PCs without these flags CAN kill others or steal from others without these flags. At least it doesnt make any sense in a mud, which bans PKilling and PStealing altogether to make these actions possible at all, does it? Taar @>-------------------------------[Lan]----------------------------------- I vote for either keeping the name as 'Guardian' or changing it to Ao. Ao seems very short and to the point, I like it. First it will be very demanding to run any kind of shop in BR as Manshoon found out with his little store. Im still getting questions about why i havent been open. Also it takes alot of time out of the game to be there for everyone needs you will have to be there a lot of the time or there will be complaints. I thought i handled my shop without many problems (ducking some harsh words from some people because i couldnt get them a Farslayer or two was about it) As a level 49 and 50 elf i met alot of needs and made enough money to feed me and buy ale for mana (i was also able to put a bit on the side for that special something later on. anyway I tried not to hand out eq to low levels but i did help out a bit so if it is handled right it should work BUT i dont think you will get long lasting suport from the mortal shop keepers. you get bored very fast and the tells get out of hand. had to shut it off everyonce and awhile Well thats about it. Make like dex necessary to drive them. And what happens if your drunk and you try to drive? Arnold? ..Like Arnold the Guardian :) "Galon" A new skill for Illithids. How about telekinesis? The ability to move objects, not on mobs, to themselves. Skills for Illithids: ]-----------------------[DELTON]----------------------[ Many of my ideas come from the AD&D 2nd Edition rules for Illithids I don't know what skills they aready have,(I've never been one) so here is a complete list: 1) Magic Resistance 2) Infraviasion 3) Mind Blast 4) Fighting w/ Tenticals 5) Charm person (Illithids have many slaves.) 6) ESP ??? (Let you see what the other players are typing???) 7) Astral Projection 8) Levitation and/or Fly 9) Body Equilibrium (Raises dex like giant strength does for str) 10) Teleport 11) Ego Whip, ID Insinuation, and Psionic Blast (other psionic attacks) 12) Alhoon, (based on the imfamous Illithilich) Causes caster to become undead for a time. (Charm and Sleep do't work on him, food and water are not needed, regains HP's,MP's, and MV's as if sleeping, ect..) (Also Elven posibility as Elven Lich's do exist.) 13) Tentical Hold,(stuns victim) 14) Elder-Brain (A seperate Psycic channel for telepathic messages between Illithids through the Elder Brain) 15) Have brains be another body part that can be left over.... one that only the Illithids can eat. @>------------------[Caramon]----------------------------------- Mind Blast- Sends a blast of mind power to a single mob doing good damage. (level 20) (25 mana) (can only start a battle) 1. no... the guy would be dead! 2. They're alive, so it's hard to bury em. 3. It was Noah! 4. One loooooooong one 5. holes! Ok, Dove got all of them right. =) Mind Blast: Race- Illithid Syntax- cast mind (mob) level- 25 mana- 35 This spell gathers power from the illithids mind and forms it into a huge ball of energy that hits one mob. It does considerable damage and is a very useful spell. (similar to fireball) -Caramon @.-----------------------------[Xena]----------------------------------- QUEST:New ideas for skills for Illithids (psionic preferably): ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mind Read: allows you to basically read mobs mind enabling you to better predict their next moves so you can block them better--if you fail, it will say something like "(mob) is not happy with you trying to read its mind" and it will attack you-- it will attack you-- if you succeed it would lower your armor class a very decent amount it can only be used at start of a fight and would last til end of fight Mind Scramble: allows you to get inside mobs head and confuse them--you scramble their thoughts around so they tend to miss alot of their hits Telepathy: this would allow illithids to communicate while they are sleeping and they could also talk to sleeping players. So if a Kender is sleeping, the Illithid could tell the kender something even though the kender is sleeping. However, the Kender would still have to wake up to talk back to the Illithid. If an Illithid talks to a sleeping fellow Illithid, the sleeping Illithid would not have to wake up because Illithids would have the ability to communicate while they are sleeping. In essence this would be a channel for Illithids only. It is as if they are communicating with their minds to be able to break through the sleeping barrier. Asphyxiate: With their mind, the Illithid would be able to cut down the oxygen in the mobs blood, thereby weakening them. some kind of skill where you can levitate the mob into the air and then drop or slam them onto the ground or into a wall. That's all for now..:) XENA @>---------------------------------[Tread]---------------------------- >Also, the new quest. Send me your ideas for NEW SKILLS for Illithids. >Preferably, go with something that is along the lines of psionics. Sorta taking advantage of their lower IQs. Mental Stability-- Kind of like Sanctuary, only used on themselves. Braingeyser-- MOB can lose up to 1/2 HP, but gets 2 free attacks before the Illithid gets to attack. Mind's eye-- Allows Illithid to see while asleep. Disembodiment(HIGH level)-- Allows Illithid to go in any direction mentally, up to 3 steps without going physically.. Like Birdseye for Avians, except cooler. Brain Death-- Allows illithid to only lose 3/4-1/2 of regular XP los if cast before a death. Mind Massacre-- Second attack(IE Claw, 1000 palms, five style fist) These may not be great, but oh well. :P --Tread @>-----------------------------[Taar]------------------------------------ New ideas for Illithid skills: name: suggested name of the skill effect: suggested effect of the skill ;) note - i didnt suggest any levels, because this is a fine tuning which is done preferably by people with more experience than me. name effect ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ reflection The Psionic reflects magical or psionic attacks to the attacker with 2/3 of the attacking power. war form The Psionic changes shape to a lvl 40 to 50 warrior but gets only a SMALL bonus on hr (maybe 5). Wimpy Monsters may flee instantly and others may lose some fighting abilities. farsee The Psionic can see n steps in any direction. (despite of walls, closed doors or else) ex: >farsee e 3< looks 3 steps east. If there should be no room, there could be a random action (with a small chance), like teleporting the psionic to another room, recall or sending him to sleep. boost boosts ac, hr and dr of any one PC by 50% with a very high cost in mana and an increased tiring rate of the PC boosted. >boost (name)<. teleport Every psionic should have that ;). beam Enables the psionic to use light rays as a vehicle. Lower in cost than teleporting, this works only at day, not in dark rooms and only for 5 to 10 steps or so. >beam e< would beam the psionic a random number of steps e (i.e. 5 to 10). Doors and such stop the voyage automatically. morphogenesis The psionic takes on the shape, abilities and eq of any group member (maybe any PC looged in at that time) for some time at the cost of totally depleting his mana and halving his mv. He CAN NOT though give anything of the eq away or keep it in some form. Sleeping and dying end this state automatically either and all the eq is lost when morphing ends. While morphed the psionic gets only half of the exp, according to his ORIGINAL level as a psionic. alienate The psionic takes on the shape of any mob he likes, but without any of the abilities of that mob that he doesnt have either. Good for exploring without being attacked. psychic eye The psionic is able for a short time to see through the eyes of any mob or PC he wants. He gets all the messages, which that mob or PC would see and also all telling, group telling and the such. He isnt able though to do anything in this state of mind and is totally helpless until it ends. empathy The psionic makes any mob feel like the psionic. So if the psionic is badly hurt, the mob thinks the same of himself and acts accordingly Of course also the other way round... Fate The psionic transforms all his mana into half that number hitpoints at the cost of losing 1 manapoint per level of the psionic permanently (maybe another formula is better, but the cost should be dire). The hp though are NOT permanently but are just added to the current hp. This one could be nice, if yuo are short before levelling and that damned mob beats the brains out of you. So far for now, Taar @>---------------------------------[BigDave]------------------------- Hey Kiri, Just a little thought for the MUD... Why not code a function in the prgram that autosaves every character periodically. I know that we should all be saving regularly, but sometimes we forget to di such things. This autosave feature would be helpful what with occasional MUD crashes and everything. I don't think it would be very hard to code, just have the function execute every time the land revitalizes itself. Hopefully, in the event of a crash, the player would then have to get, say, 5K XP back instead of 23K XP. Kiri's Note: I think you may be glad to know we DO have this feature. ;) As for the turds... Keep them. They add a certain sense of realism to the game when it comes to death. Certain bodily functions DO go lax when the body checks out... Not that I am a sicko or anything. It's just my opinion. I am currently working on my own MUD based on my college... so if you want coders for the summer, I'd be more than happy to help. As for credentials... I am a Computer Science major specializing in graphics and animation. You probably don't need any, but I'm here just in case. There were reindeer scattered around the main city, Santa Clause was at recall, handing out candy canes to the "good" mudders, and coal (cursed, but removable) to the evil aligns. They also had an area "down" near recall, with the Grinch, his dog Max, Cindy Loo who, and the entire script of "The Grinch who stole Christmas" as you took each step. I have no idea the time an undertaking like this entails, but should any coders be sitting around just waiting for something to do ( ;) )... perhaps they might plagiarize some well-known story, to brighten things for the holidays ;). Subject: Ideas for Ill skills Confuse The ill's strong mind power, could work to distort the mob's perception, resulting in fewer hits on the mobs part to the illythiads. (like a 2 to 1 ratio) Perhaps the mob is more inclined to strike out, into empty air, a bit unsure where his opponent is standing. Telekinesis I really liked the earlier suggestion on this skill, perhaps Ill's could utilize such a skill on items at stores, and weapons from mobs? I just wouldn't want them to be too successful at it ;) I would love that! I think a very good piece of armor or weapon would take several days to forge. Also quality of metals differs greatly in the real world, and I believe that you'd have to be VERY adept, to even know the difference of these qualities. There could almost be two skills which would need to be honed... Metallurgy & Blacksmithing. It would be great to have a community forge either near the alter or maybe an added room to the Dwarf guild. For coding sake, and not being too scientific about it, various metals could be given a number, for the amount of "turnings" it could withstand without breaking. The metallurgy skill would enable you to determine the max times the turning could be done. Each turn should diminish a specific amount of your mana, movements (forging is hot, sweaty work!). Go beyond the amount of turns the metal could withstand, and your metal breaks... and is all but worthless. Go "under" the maximum numbers the metal could withstand turning, and you create an inferior weapon (depending how far under)... turn the metal the maximum turns it can withstand, and you can create as sturdy of a weapon, as the metal could sustain. There should be varying qualities of metal to be found (Dwarf mines should have this added)... it would be trial and error, but the worthwhile goal, should be the ability to create a very special, superior weapon (at a HIGH level... I think it would almost be a dwarf's life work to learn to achieve it). -Yepitsme @>---------------------[More ideas]---------------------------------- Helpgor: create a way for people who are stuck online ot reconnect without having an 'already playing' message appearing... it sucks when an imm has to sign me off Lan: Be able to go from a sleeping position to a resting position. Kiri's note- this is being done now Lan: How about a 'yuck' or 'ick' social..see someone eat a body part and you can go Ooooooo....YUUUCCKKK! Kiri's note- you can write this :) Midnight: the "dispel magic" spell should be able to work o weapons, as well. Profit: new race....drow elves! Kiri's note- this is the first REALLY barren kinda race I've heard in a while.... I like it. Silverfox: When grouped and in a tour bus and one person dies...they're corpse stays in the bus. That is cool. But when the group kills a mob and autoloot is on, the group member automatically loot the corpse on the bus after killing the mob. It would be nice if this could be fized....umm guess this is more of a BUG but....:) Kiri's note: Dear, dear SF... You shouldn't Be USING the tour bus at ALL. Vehicles are not in yet, but they will be soon. IN case you didn't know, Using the tour bus in this manner is punished, in most cases. Gorzak: driver command to see who is current driver of the vehicle you are in Gorzak: make the 'drive' command work Kiri's note= again I must state vehicles are NOT in yet, and please do not use them yet! Of course drive doesn't work, vehicles aren't in :P Silverfox: Make a 'whogroup' command that lists all the people in groups at the moment. Silverfox: Make another 'report' command that displays your hitroll, damroll, and AC. Maybe other stuff if you like. :) Dove: I don't think that glare should work on mobs that are sleeping, but it does Kiri's note- your point makes sense since the mob's eyes are supposedly closed while sleeping. Lan: Teleport: Only be able to teleport to an area you are familiar with...a place you have actually had to walk to or been summoned to. Lan: We have mobs that remember us if we attack them and come back later, right? Why not have mobs that chase you if you flee? Sylvester: How about the ability to do the "who" command with whatever keyword that will show only those people that you can group with Kiri's note- pretty simple. If you are level 15, type who 10 20. :) and so on, :) Silverfox: How bout making it so the armoury can buy more from play ers? I sure seem to get the message 'Sorry. My shelves are full right now a LOT!' By an hour or two after reboot I get that message.... Kiri's note- ahh, the virtues of laziness..honey, we have about 25 armorers in BR..walk a little! ;) Silverfox: It would be REALLY nice if group members wouldn't be labelled attackers when they attack other group member's pets by accident. Silverfox: A policeman (drunk inspector) who goes around town and takes money (a fine) from people who are drunk in town. :) Silverfox: A function that could be switched on or off with 'config +/-' or whatever that enables you to see people logon. You'd get a message ' has logged on'...or < has entered BR' just like if you were in the same room. This is perhaps be a list so only certain players' log-ons would be displayed on your screen. Subject: newsletter 33 @>------------------------------[Starr]------------------------------- and don't you think that we have to eat and drink a LITTLE too often? i mean, irl i go for hours at a time without eating or drinking... can we do that mudtime for br? i mean, my char, Starr, has to eat and drink arouynd every half-to-one mud hour.. and it realy gets annoying. =( well, thanks for taking your time to read this, Starr aka Hunter. @>------------------------[Faustus]----------------------------------- Hey Kiri... I have a few rabdom thoughts for you to pass on to everone who gets the newsletter. I want to see what everyone thinks of these... Curses: I've found that the standard, run of the mill curse on Barren Realms just isn't that interesting. Everyone knows what to expect: no recalling and a penalty to hit. Things might be a little more interesting if we had some sort of random curse system. For example, when a mob casts curse on you, one of several possible curses would affect you. i.e. every few rounds you fall asleep and can't wake up for two to three ticks, you randomly start to drop objects every tick, you become incapable of initiating a fight, every tick you have a chance of randomly teleporting somewhere, etc. I could come up with some more, but I think everyone gets the point. Basically, when you first become cursed, you have no way of knowing which type of curse has been cast on you until the effect begin to take place. Different types of curses could also be split up by level so that the very unpleasant curses, such as uncontolable teleportation, are only cast by higher level mobs. I don't know if this would be difficult to code, but it would certainly make things more interesting... Skills/Spells: Door Bash (for dwarves) I know that this idea comes up every once in a while, but I for one would like to see it added. Basically, the dwarf would throw his or her weight against a locked door to force it open. If successful, the door would open and stay open until the rext time the area resets. If unsuccessful, the dwarf would take some damage and possibly be stunned for a while. (I don't remember if dwarves still have the pass door spell or not. If they do have it, it should probably be taken away and replaced with this skill) Enhance Spellcasting (spell for elves and druids) This is an idea I had for a high level (around 35 or 40) spell for elves and druids. Basically, when spellcasters cast this spell on themselves, it would increase the duration of timed spells that they cast. If this spell is successful, any timed spells that they cast would last about 30-50% longer. If the spell fails, then any timed spells that the caster casts will only last about half as long as they would otherwise (there's got to be some potential drawback...) That's about it for now... if anyone has any comments about these, let me know. -Faustus @>---------------------[Memnoch]---------------------------- Physic Sword- perhaps this could be a spell that would envelope the weapon of the caster with a psychic flame that would increase damroll for a short time. This weapon would be similar to the weapon used by the marvel character psylocke! astral attack- this would alow the caster to go inot the astral plane and attack a mob without its body, through various psionic attacks?! Memnoch @>------------------------[Crymson]--------------------------- hey kiri, new spell: wish in AD&D it's a mage's spell so.. it could also work for druids. d&d explanation (taken directly from the player's handbook) " ... it is used to alter reality with respect of hit points susteained by a party, to bring a dead char to life, or to escape from a difficult situation... " well, since we already have things that do with that.. like curing spells, you come back to life after you die anyways, and recall/flee.. i thought it could, when cast would have either food, water (spring) or a potion automatically created. totally random. another idea i have.. came sorta via phoenix.. so give him some credit as well :) was to have spell failure. for example, if you cast a spell, instead of "losing concentration" all the time, have it cast like 'create food' and you end up having a pie in front of you instead of a fireball. well, that's all for now crymson *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | Barren Realms Newsletter | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | I am looking for someone willing to do ascii..contact me if you are.| *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | Be sure to check out the Official Barren Realms Homepage: | | http://www.tmn.com/Community/travisr/barren.html | | Also, send me mail if you want to join the Builder's Forum. | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | Barren Realms: barren.coredcs.com 8000 | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* From karen@ulc18.residence.gatech.edu Tue Jun 4 19:38:51 1996 Received: from ulc18.residence.gatech.edu (karen@ulc18.residence.gatech.edu [199.77.162.68]) by linet02.li.net (8.6.12/8.6.6) with ESMTP id TAA22268 for ; Tue, 4 Jun 1996 19:38:50 -0400 Received: (from karen@localhost) by ulc18.residence.gatech.edu (8.6.12/8.6.9) id TAA01196; Tue, 4 Jun 1996 19:45:08 -0500 Date: Tue, 4 Jun 1996 19:45:08 -0500 (CDT) From: Kiri To: karen Subject: newsletter 34 (fwd) Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Status: RO X-Status: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 15 May 1996 22:02:46 -0500 (CDT) From: Kiri Subject: newsletter 34 Dear mortals, heroes, immortals and friends, It is extremely important that all of you OLD and NEW heroes email me with your name and email address so I can bump you into a different email file for sending out newsletters...thanks :) @>-----------------------[Starr]------------------------------- on crymson's idea: i like it, but have you tried Batmud? in that one, tmporarily closed for something or other, 'a light breeze disturbs your concentration' or 'a leaf falls on your eyelid, spoiling your concentration.. maybe something like that. =) Starr @>---------------------------[Midnight]------------------------------ Anyway, the skill that I thought of is called "shadow", or "spirit". This skill would be either Very high, or only hero spell. The caster would be able to store some of his life force and be able to continue fighting after the person hits 0 hp. (it is like the "spirit" from Killer Instinct II.) Syntax: c `spirit' converts mana into hitpoints right before death. takes 150 mana gives 150 hp to caster. -Midnight, the Black Dragon HighLord @>----------------------------------[Thexder]---------------------------- New Idea: Make maps to popular places, especially ones that are hard to find (i.e. Solace, Ofcol) and maybe have a seller of maps in Calathar. It might be a good idea to make the maps timed and dissolve after a while, so that it forces the player to eventually memorize how to get there on their own, and not always rely on maps. New Skill: Vertical Kick - A skill that would make you jump up off the ground after being tripped and kick the mob as an attack. (For Humans or Kenders?) Cartography - A skill that enables one to create a map by walking the path to an area and the skill would record the directions. This skill would also make timed maps. Useful for giving someone directions to a place which the seller of maps in Calathar would not have a map for. Ok, that's all I could think of. I hope you like these new ideas! :) Later! Thexder @>-------------------[Keith]--------------------------------------- Kiri - I've always had a fascination with Scooby - Doo, but unfortunately I do not know how to code. If someone who can, reads this and is interested, I'm sure a Scooby - Doo area would be welcome. I agree with (I can't remember who) on the idea of the drow elf. They could have automatic infravision (which actually would be weird since dwarves are supposed to have this ability in some sense), most of the spells that a normal elf has and an inclination for evil. The problem with the alignment would be in what they receive for specific kills and what items can be picked up...but that stuff is left up to you people who can code...I just play. And lastly, how about a wider variety of pets or mercenaries...some geared towards the zanier side. Some examples of pets could be a wombat, three - toed sloth, and the elan. As for mercenaries, you could have people dubbed by their everyday profession such as painter, doctor, or tree surgeon. Oh yeah, how about a Full House area. I coud really go for crippling and discombobulating Bob Sagat and those annoying Owen twins! Keith @>------------------------------[Crassus]------------------ A nice spell for Ill's would be Psychic Whip. This could be an extra attack like tentacles, or something. It is simply a mental extension of will by the Illithid, used to mentally bash the mob or enemy. New Idea for BR would be a jail, not just fine, for those caught being drunk in town. The Constable (or whatever his name is now) finds you, and hauls you off to jail. Just another nuisance for those of us who need Beer and such. Crassus @>-------------------------------------[Quiver]------------------------ >1. Subject: newsletter (fwd) @>---------------------------------[Crymson]------------------------- don't know if this has been brought up or not but how about a command: "retell" it displays up to the last 10 (only 5?) tells you recieved, or however much the buffer can hold. this can be really helpful to the ppl that can't scroll back. tell me what you think crymson Do you have any answers to these questions? I've done all I can through MZF... Now it's time to start editing the .ARE file directly. However, I need a couple of questions answered about some BR specific options before I commit myself to requesting vnums. 1. This isn't BR specific, but I've noticed a discrepancy between the MZF docs, and the Builders' Guide. According to the guide, the room flag PRIVATE (512) allows only 1 in the room at a time, and SOLITARY (2048) allows 2 in the room at a time. MZF, however, seems to think just the opposite. Which is correct? I've flagged two rooms in my area as SOLITARY, and it would be kind of a bummer if no one could enter them because of the sentinel mob in each of those rooms. 2. Although it would not be posible to set both the ID and REPAIR ACT bits on a single mob, would it be possible to set one of them on a mob who was also a shopkeeper? Specifically, I have an armor merchant whom I would also like to repair armor. Theoretically, he should be able to BUY, SELL, LIST, and VALUE as a shopkeeper, and if someone were to GIVE a piece of armor to him, he would repair it. Is this possible? 3. I've seen a 'Can of Coke' in BR, but there is no 'Coke' listed in the table of available liquids (although there is a 'Pepsi'). Is there a way to name the liquid? In my area, I have a 'Pitcher of Mai Tais', which I've filled with 'screwdriver', which I judged to be equivalent. Of course, that will show up as : ' drinks screwdriver from a pitcher of Mai Tais' Is there a way to substitute 'Mai Tai' for screwdriver? I'm not trying to change the liquid, just have a different name come up for that item. 4. A few questions about object flags: What effects do the DARK, LOCK, BLESS, and INVENTORY flags have? They don't have anything which shows up outside of identifying them. Is DARK supposed to be the opposite of a LIGHT object? What's the bit value for INVISIFY? I think I've seen this somewhere in BR. I don't plan on using it, but I'd like to know if it exists. I've seen level values set on food items. How is that done? The food I saw was not carried by a mob (although it was inside a container). That's all the questions I've got... If I can get some of them cleared up, I'll be ready to req vnums and make a submission. TIA, Brisket @>--------------------------[Caramon]---------------------------------- >1. Come up with 1 new idea for Br Hehe, If you are ever gonna have the dream channel with an area that you can go to while asleep, (a long time ago thing), im making Dreamland... so uou could have that in. In fact, I have a list of new ideas! With a description to make it even cooler... :) 1.New magic for Ill, Dru, and Elf: a. Burning hands (is this already in?) The caster's hands are burst into flames (drus and elfs can use fire weapons/armor... right? :) and does about 2 hps of damage per level of the caster. b. Blink Randomly teleports the caster, in the area though. c. Haste Doubles the casters movement for a short time. d. Dancing Lights Little flickering lights flicker in their own flickering way in front of the mob and the mob loses its rocker... or is basically confused. This would either make it swing wildly and miss the caster more often, or it would run around like a drunk bumping into walls, moving completely at random. e. Fear Makes the target flee in terror, for the spell alters their vision and they see you as Oakley, or Kiri... :) Note: the mob must be at least 3 levels below the caster. f. Feeblemind Best used on magic-using mobs, it will make the mob very stupid and therefore make it unable to cast spells. g. Delayed Fireball Is like a fireball, but does much more damage. Note: it takes like 3-5 rounds to take affect, hey, a powerful spell has gotta have a disadvantage! :) 2. New races Cleric: I couldn't think of a good name for a cleric race... but here's the description: This race is mastered in the arts of healing, but as a downside are not very trained with fighting. Useful for groups. 3. Basic ideas: a. Wish Instead of the social that nobody uses, this would be a channel that you would use to communicate with imms. Or, in other words, when you use this channel your message is sent to all of the imms. (e.g. Caramon wishes 'Can I have a cr?') c. Add the 'Last time on' to the profile. >3. Describe a skill that you would like to have Umm... for heroes... How about 'Corpse walk' I know this was in vamps, but it would be useful for heros. Heros have asked me many times where i was killed because they were lagged and didnt see the message. If someone is just into power mudding and not helping out the newbies, running quests, or doing other things that heros do, they can be given an option of which race they'd like to continue as, be set back to either beginning, with good stats (not hp mana move, but str, dex, int, str, etc), or set back to about level 20 or 25 with equivilent equipment for that level. >3. dwarves or humans getting a repair skill (to do beich's job) I like it. I forgot to tell you the idea. I think that a hero should be able to use the "general purpose", "High Explosive", and "Change Sex" spells, but there is no place that teaches them. I also think that, since HEROs no longer need experience, we should be able to sell it (expericnce), for practice sessions. Such as: 100,000 xp = 3 practice sessions. Thanks, -Midnight 1.) an idea for the realms: Impliment some more MUD activities that can take away from everyone's mad rush to level... that's why I had suggested paintball because it distracts players from levelling slightly. Some ideas (I don't know how hard these will be to code) are: (ALL IDEAS ARE MEANT TO BE CODED IN AND REGULATED BY THE MUD CODE) poker, tag, automated scavenger hunts (automated mobile picks a random object within the player's level range and tells them to get it and bring it back. Can be changed to allow for multiplayer hunts.), mercenary contractors (automated mobiles assign a player to assassinate a mobile for money), and perhaps automated gang arena battles. 2.) a new spell/skill I would like to have: Some skills I would like to see and/or have are: scare (skill for avians) ; fear (spell for elves) - causes the target mobile to flee cartwheel kick (skill for humans) - multi-attack weak-to-medium damage body blow (skill for dwarves) - high-powered single attack causes delay for 3 rounds critical hit (skill for kender) - creates a small possibility that player will hit a critical blow which does double normal attack damage. double vision (spell for illithids) - creates a duplicate image of the caster which temporarily lowers the mobile's hitroll by half bodywarp (spell for illithids) - shoots player in a random direction; player keeps moving until player hits a wall or door. 1) The Idea-- I would like to see a Monty Python area. I know that a lot of people are Python fans, and it would be appreciated. As far as mobs and rooms, I'd be more than happy to create them, but when it comes to coding, I really haven't a clue. Actually, I have no idea about a lot of technical MUD things, but ideas for areas, items, mobs, etc would probably come rather quickly. Ohh... just in case you don't know what Monty Python is, they are a British comedy troupe popular in the 60's and 70's. Their more famous films include Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, The Meaning of Life, and ...And Now For Somthing Completly Different. The Flying Circus was their television programme, and John Cleese played Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. 2) The Skill-- I changed this slightly to fit, so actually this should be a spell, as opposed to a skill. I have encountered problems in MUD trying to find certain objects. Let's take for example "Wooden Leggings." When one casts a 'locate object', it tells you that this particular item can be found in "A Storage Room." Where is that? There are hundreds of storage-type rooms in MUD, so what are the chances of finding this elusive object? Very slim, to put it lightly. Therefore, I propose either a spell one could cast to teleport to an object (this object wouldn't be on a mob... it would work much like teleport does), or a spell that would summon an object to a person. An example of these: 1) A person wants a leather backpack, so she/he types "cast 'object teleport' backpack." 2) This same generic person gets hungry occasionly, so she/he types "cast 'object summon' pie." This spell may be too powerful, so perhaps it would be best for heroes :) Hope this works! *Gilthoniel* Subject: BR newsletter @>-------------------[Oakley's...erm..comments]------------------------ > My idea: add a skill like "detect aggro" so you could see a (Yellow Aura) > or suchlike around a mob who is aggressive; this still wouldn't tell you > what level the mob was, but you could still see it on scan or birdseye or > if you were invis in front of it. (Would this make it too easy?) yeah, it would make things a bit too easy. being able to know which mobs are aggressive, thus being able to avoid them kinda defeats the purpose of having them, or makes them all need to have detect invis going. > @>------------------------------[Ipse]------------------------------ > I'd like to see a "power sleep" that would allow a person to sleep and > recover at 2 to 3 times the normal rate. If yer attacked it takes 2 - 3 > rounds to wake and respond. Perhaps imms could communicate for sys > maintenance. I really don't like this idea much. sleep is SUPPOSED to be an inconvenience, just like it is RL. it should take a while, unless you don't want to be fully rested, then you wake up earlier... > @>--------------------------------[Taar]---------------------------------- > What about expanding the avian tracking skill so that it > doesn't work only for people but also for items. Maybe the cost in mana could be raised. another idea i'm not all that fond of. this and there will be a lot of complaints... typing track sword for instance... and what kind of objects could it find? only those on the ground? those wielded? then how does it determine if it's a players or mobs? there's way too much coding involved to make this a realistic possibility > > The "PUT A LID ON IT" message shouldn't appear when the > command is a direction. It's really annoying to be kicked > out while just walking south - for example. > it is put on ANYTHING, it doesn't matter what you are doing. it's how the code is written so somone doesn't overflow the buffer spamming stupid things and crash the mud... > (Not new, I know, but...) Avian armour which actually fits > over the wings! ;) ever see a bird try and fly with 50 lbs on its' wings? armor would crush the feathers, making flight impossible (pretty much) and possibly destroying them eliminating the chance of flight after the armor is removed... > Besides it is quite strange, that i cannot wear body-armour > because of the protruding wings but trousers or leggings are > no problem. What's with the tail? ;) good idea, let's remove the leggings slot as well ;) > > Would it be possible to flag no recall areas on the areas list so that > when people stumble into them by accident they don't panic (like I did) > and call a hero for help because they don't know what is going on. For rounding out the Illithid skill/spell list, why not just rename some of the existing skills/spells? This would take less coding... For example, 'call lightning' could be given to them as an in-guild spell, 'ionize atmosphere', and 'dispel magic' could be 'molecular stability' (that one may be kind of hard to understand...it comes from playing AD&D in the old days, when all you needed was a couple of books and some imagination). Many other existing skills/spells could be similarly 'illithified'. Noran also once mentioned that Illithids should be able to grapple with their tentacles... Extra attack, maybe? Possibly only doing as much damage as a non-equipped, non-'dual'ed offhand... I also think Illithids should get 'charm person' and 'glare' as in-guild skills, if they don't already-- After all, they're supposed to be powerful psionics who regularly bend the minds of lesser beings (like humans and demi-humans). Someone else once mentioned giving Illithids a spell to mimic the imm 'force' ability. Why not? Only have it work on mobs, of course... Set it as a lower level ability; after all, it wouldn't be any different than a one-command 'charm'. To make it more interesting, have the skill failure similar to Kender 'steal'-- Have "Oops." echoed to the failing Illithid, and have the mob attack and shout " is a bloody bully!" One thing I'd *really* like to see in BR: (I know I've mentioned this before, but the squeaky wheel gets the CR, they say...) A rename shop! Have the cost be somewhere around 20 times the value of the object to be renamed (disallowing 'trash' items which have a value of 0). So, a 5000 gp item would cost 100,000 gp to rename. Sounds fair. It'd prolly require the usage of a precious ACT-bit, and would have to have something like a set of '$' commands in order to allow for renaming the id names, short and long name, maybe even the description (ooo, I'm giddy just considering it). Why do I think a rename shop is such a good idea? Simply put, I'm tired of the best items in my eq list being 'funny' items. Sure, I could only equip myself with non-funny stuff-- but I really *need* those extra 2 points of WIS from the purple toupee! And the DEX from the boogie leggings! And... And... *sigh* Then again, maybe renames should be kept only for dispensing as quest prizes and the like... I'd just sure hate to have a 'banana in your ear' some day. Avian armour which actually fits >over the wings! ;) >Besides it is quite strange, that i cannot wear body-armour >because of the protruding wings but trousers or leggings are >no problem. What's with the tail? ;) Taar: You may be of a lower level, but ALL Avians should know this: The tail affects girths and other waist items. Also, on the issue of Avian Armour, I *heard* that we get to have TAN work on all armour now, but I am too stupid (ie> INT of 13) to get it.. I'll get a twinkling ball of light then check this out :) --The always helpful bird, Tread PS. A possible skill, Backfire, I suppose this could be useful against >spell casting mobs, it would turn the spell back on the caster, but I'm >not sure how one could work out the timing. Perhaps use it at beginning >of battle. > > >-Lambchop This caught my eye, and I thought that maybe the illithid skill "absorb energy" might be modified a little. That way the energy absorbed could be channeled into the weapon of the caster of the "absorb energy" increasing the damage during the battle. I'm not sure if you'd want to make this a cumulative affect, unless you just make it for a limited time, i.e. only cumulative only for that particular casting. So say, that the spell when first cast doesn't affect the damage the caster can do, but as it absorbs more energy from (offensive) spells cast on it it will allow it's caster to do more damage. And once the spell wears off it is back to square one.... Is that too complicated to code? -Criterion @>-------------------------[Opus]-------------------------------------- Ok...Skill #2... Have a skill kender called runaround. This would allow a kender to run behind the enemy, and begin attacking him/her/it from behind. The attacker would have to be the main one, and must be in a group to do it. It's almost like a coward's skill. syntax: runaround New Idea. Make all "slists" available to heros. something like: slist spell list for druids slist spell list for elves slist spell list for kender slist etc... @>----------------------[Memnoch]------------------------ How about a spell for druids that would allow them to cast over their entire group. For instance a heal that would partially heal the whole group. Also spells that would extend shields over the group, and armor and other such things. Of course these spells would take up alot of mana, but they also would add a new dimension to grouping. :) Memnoch the Devil Sorry kinda late... Spell for Illithids: c 'illusion' during battle It allows the caster to deceive the mob during battle by changing its weapon or eq into something else, something frightening, maybe a phyton, so that the mob will drop the weapon or eq that is being affected. The caster can not control which weapon or eq to be affected. Maybe for high lvls ,35+ @>----------------[Memnoch]---------------------------- I have a couple more ideas but I'm not sure whether they're any good or anything so I figured I would just let you have them. 1. Voice of Mind- would let illithids be able to contact other people on BR even when those people are sleeping. It would sort of be like a telepathic means of contacting other people. 2. Blast of Will- How about giving them a spell that would a be sheer blast of gathered will. Maybe it could be similar top the druid spell magic missile. 3. Pyschic- Allow the caster to create projections with the mind, that would be similar to pets. They would be created for a battle and as long as they exist there will be a drain on the mana of the caster. The attack strength of the "creation" would depend on the level of the caster. 4. Illusion- this will allow the caster to create the illusion that they have split up into many of themselves, you know like kind of make copies of themselves. This would trick the mob into believing there were more than one attacker and his attacks would fail to connect. 5. Mind Double- similar to illusion but it would allow the caster to create other selves that would be able to attack the mob, it would increase hitroll, but might decrease hitpoints and armor class. 6. Neutralize- it would allow the caster to neutralize the casting ability of an attacking mob. This could be accomplished because they're psionics and they should be able to make it so that a mob can't concentrate enough to cast. 7. Empath- would allow the caster to sense whether or not an aggressive mob is near. Might say "You sense the anger of to the North". Memnoch
